Mele ka'i (entrance songs) and mele ka'i ho'i (exit songs) are poetical pieces that were specifically composed for these functions. Not any kind of mele can be used for the entrance or the exit of hula. The words in the mele ka'i and the mele ka'i ho'i have specific functions.
