Did You Know.......

The great stimulus given to the revival of the hula in the Kalakaua years carried through to the 20th century.  Little is heard of the hula, however, for the years following the death of the king and the subsequent period of political turmoil.  It certainly ceased as a form of official entertainment after the overthrow of the monarch in 1893, and remained largely unknown to the outside world as an indigenous art form of the Hawaiian people, until the publication of N.B. Emerson's Unwritten Literature of Hawaii in 1909.
