Lili'uokalani, the daughter of Kapa'akea and Keohokalole, was named Kamaka'eha (the sore eyes), Loloku (full of tears), Lili'u (smarting, as salt makes a raw wound smart), and Walaniaikeki'i'onohi (intense pain in the eyeballs). It was customary and correct to add "lani" or "okalani" to these names as they pertain to chiefs. It was an honor to be so named, as commoners were never named for a chief, or any part of this body.
