NA LEI

Kaumo'o

This shell is commonly called the variegated sundial.  The Hawaiian name means scorched, partly consumed by fire, inflamed.  It is often used at the ends of several strands of shells.  The thread ends of several strands are drawn through a hole that is punched out of the spire tip of the shell before they are finally secured in a cowry shell clasp.
