Something To Think About...

It seems reasonable to suppose that some chanters and dancers would become favorites of different chiefs, and that from them would come the po'e hula, whose role it became to be "on call" to furnish entertainment for a particular chief.  This assumption would account for certain dancers and chanters being known as the "hereditary" po'e hula of some chiefs and rulers in the later days of the Hawaiian monarchy.
