Two appropriate times for hula in old Hawai'i were mornings and evenings. In kahiko, the traditional style of hula, the chant frequently used to bring the dancers out on stage is Ho'opuka e ka la. When this mele is chanted the dancers enters from the east, drawing from the strength of the sun, thus moving in the direction of its daily course....
